I am working with a couple schools who are focusing on problem/challenge based learning. Nettrekker will be a great benefit to the students because it allows them to share Websites with their group members. I can see how the user defined template could be used to guide the process of searching for relevant and accurate information. Many of the students in these schools are second language learners so the Read Aloud and Dictionary features help level the playing field and give all students access to age-appropriate content.

I think the biggest thing I'll take from this course, and from what netTrekker provides in general, is equity. All any student or teacher needs is an internet connection in order to collect research, build a portfolio, share resources, collaborate with members of a group, and anywhere in between. My experience in this course of being able to interact with these tools on a deeper level will help me more effectively support the teachers I work with as well as help the students of our district be more self-directed and collaborative with what they do and learn. Very few tools can boast that they help create, support, and maintain learning environments in this manner. I am happy and fortunate to be involved with netTrekker and look forward to what it will do for the students and teachers of Aurora Public Schools.

I am going to take several things away from me after taking this course. The first is that I will use nettrekker to conduct searches for teaching materials. I will probably use the readability feature as well as the tools to select certain types of media such as videos or games. Next, I will access the 21st century skills resources. I think it is wonderful to have such quick access to this important but often ignored component of teaching. And as a part of the 21st century skills, I plan to try to use voice thread. I really like the idea of students being able to have a discussion this way.

For me the most meaningful part of this course was discovering how to locate and share resources that are not only content specific but age appropriate. Often time locating resources on the web are often not appropriate for your students. NetTrekkers ability to refine your search based on readability that best matches your students will be an extremely valuable resource. Also to quickly and easily share these resources with colleagues will also be very useful in the upcoming year.

While I have been familiar with NetTrekker for years, this course really showed me the power of this tool. I am most excited about the ability to collaborate and build our district resources with and for teachers. I also really love the read aloud and translation features as we have a large ELL population and many students below grade level in reading. Finally I was excited to find so many resources I can share with our teachers for teaching online safety, secuirty and cyberbullying.

I have enjoyed the class very much! I thought each module provided new information and I am anxious to show many features to the staff at my school. In fact, after completing Module 7 I have decided to implement the 21st Century Skills video and 21st Century Skills channel into my "Techology Time" with teachers during pre-planning this week. I'm thankful for the experience! I believe my teachers will be too!

FINAL THOUGHTS NT101
Being a newbie to Nettreekker, I found myself spending hours doing each of the units because I would go off on rabbit trails. There are so many new and exciting elements that are available through Nettrekker. I can't wait to get back to school and share with colleagues and students. I will spend the next couple of weeks refining all my folders so I can start implementation right away. I teach in a low-income school and the technology available is basically a computer lab with very basic applications. Now having all of the tools available on Nettrekker, students will gain a new appreciation for what can be done with technology.

Nettrekker is now an even greater part of my tech “bag of tricks.” This is not to say that it is smoke and mirrors-it is just so convenient and powerful for a classroom teacher. Although I have been using Nettrekker all year, the online course really helped me to walk through all the different resources available. The search features with the drill-down menus are so handy. The teachers will have a much easier time differentiating since they can search based on Readability with Nettrekker. My Promethean Teachers are really delighted to see how many lessons/flipcharts come up in a normal search…and they are all recommended (unlike Promethean Planet, which has lots of good stuff, but it is not juried).

My ELL teachers will really utilize the ELL channel on Nettrekker. I suspect that many of the regular ed teachers who have ELL students in class will also utilize this feature.

My Portfolio is awesome. I love being able to store all these resources in one spot, and have many folders in that area. I have even found many resources that are applicable to Professional Development, which I will definitely use.

I am becoming more familiar with the 21st Century Skills channel, and hope to roll that out with teachers this week. This will make the transition to that mindset much easier for the teachers.

Great software, great training, great facilitator in Amy!

I already had previous knowledge on most content covered in this class. This class was helpful in the area of differiention and ELL learners.

I have really learned how to better use netTrekker in my lessons with teachers and students. I used to use it, but only to do keyword or image searches, now I feel much more confident to show others how to narrow their searches to find exactly what they're looking for in their research projects. I also like the ability to add the templates to the lessons because I think students will be able to become more independent in their searches and compiling their projects. The other thing I really liked was the ELL feature. Having text read to struggling readers will be beneficial b/c students will all have an equal opportunity to learn about the content, whether or not they struggle while trying to read it. The conversion dictionary will also be beneficial if they are struggling with the English language. Thanks for offering such a great course!
